For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Restored Circa 1925 Waterman #52 Cardinal Red Hard Rubber Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. This is a wonderful example of a Cardinal #52 model from Waterman!
Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil - the inside of the cap is very clean. I have cleaned, buffed, and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new silicone sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Cap Banding, Gold Filled Waterman Clip-Cap Clip, Gold Filled Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K #2 NIB.
This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the Cardinal Red color with no cracks which are almost impossible to find. The coloring is gorgeous displaying consistent red coloring. The lever is crisp and clean with "IDEAL" on the lever easily seen with the naked eye. The Waterman Ideal Clip-Cap displays display absolutely no wear. The gold-filled cap banding is perfect with no wear. All 18K Gold Filled trim has been polished to shine brightly. This Waterman 52 barrel has a clean imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG U.S. IDEAL GLOBE PAT. OFF. FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen has a crisp number "52" imprint. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalization to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman #52 measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 5/8" posted.
The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly and as it was originally intended to.
This Waterman has an absolutely buttery smooth #2 WATERMAN IDEAL Nib that is a pleasure to write with. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .71mm when measured with digital calipers - a medium nib point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a medium to triple broad stroke/line variation. The medium line measures roughly .62mm with light pressure and the triple broad strokes measures at 1.90mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
This antique Waterman #52 Cardinal Red Hard Rubber Fountain Pen is not an easy example to find clean. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to grade in Excellent condition. This is a Collector and Writers' dream pen in terms of condition and how smooth it writes. This Waterman #52 Cardinal Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition or add it to your writing arsenal collection.
