For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1916 Waterman 12 1/2 PSF Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with Sterling Silver Overlay in the Sheraton Pattern. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.
Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new sac. Hand polished the Sterling Waterman Ideal Cap & Clip, Barrel and Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Ideal 14K #2 Flexible NIB.
This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with Sterling Silver Overlay. The sterling silver overlay is known as the Sheraton pattern and is uncommon for most Waterman U.S.A. overlays. The hard rubber portion of the pen displays a black color but with some oxidation on what little can be seen. The barrel is stamped with, "STERLING". The butt end of the fountain pen has the 12 1/2 P.S.F. imprint.
The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There are no monograms or personalizations on the barrel and there is a cartouche area that has been left untouched. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. The sterling overlay looks beautiful that displays less than normal use wear and scratching. There are no dings or denting. This Waterman 12 1/2 measures 5 1/4" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted.
The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever display little wear.
The NIB is a New York 14K #2 Flexible Ideal Waterman NIB. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K Ideal NIB, it measured at a medium point of .60mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a Medium line measuring roughly .75mm and flexes up to triple broad stroke of approximately 1.95mm with a medium to firm pressure. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
This is a great, antique Waterman's 12 1/2 Sterling Sheraton Overlay Fountain Pen that is in ready to write condition. I would grade this Waterman 12 1/2 in Very Fine to Excellent Condition and is a collector grade Waterman. A superb writing instrument to add to your writing arsenal collection!
