This pen comes with the original lacquered wooden box and Montblanc Limited Edition Documentation. This fountain pen has never been inked and is considered in Mint Condition.
This fountain pen is a limited edition Montblanc creation that pays homage to Joseph II, Austria's most forward-thinking monarch and advocate of the arts. The pen boasts the national colors of Austria in red and white lacquer, complemented by gold-plated accents on the cap and barrel. The luxurious 18K nib is engraved with the emperor's imperial coat of arms, adding a touch of opulence to the pen. Montblanc's tribute to the great 18th-century emperor of the Roman Empire, whose enlightened policies led to cultural reforms culminating in the revival of Vienna and the ascent of Mozart. This Montblanc is a limited edition and the number of this particular pen is "4281 of 4810".
The cap and barrel are in perfect condition with no cracks, nicks, enamel loss, or repairs. The cap is always securing tightly to the barrel. The fountain pen measures 5 7/8" capped and 6 7/8" posted.
This Montblanc fountain pen uses a piston filling system and I have tested it with water and works as it was designed to. I have cleaned the inside of the barrel and greased the piston for smooth operation. There were no signs of ink inside the barrel or the nib - this is how I came to the conclusion the fountain pen had never been inked.
This fountain pen features an 18K Medium nib showing the Coat of Arms of Joseph II. The nib is labeled "2012 4810, 18K/750, Montblanc" and is considered a Medium point, measuring .82mm with digital calipers. To preserve its pristine condition, I refrained from using ink in the pen, to keep it in never-inked condition for the new owner.
This Montblanc comes in the original Montblanc wooden lacquered box, service literature, and the International Service Certificate/Reply Card - all in excellent condition!
Joseph II was born as the eldest child of Empress Maria Theresa and Francis Stephen of Lorraine, later known as Francis I, German Emperor. He grew up in Vienna, Austria, alongside his sister Marie Antoinette and other siblings. In 1764, Joseph II ascended to the throne and became King of the Romans (King in Germany). Just one year later, he also became the Emperor of the Roman Empire. Unlike his mother, who clung to old traditions, Joseph was a proponent of enlightened ideas. During his reign, he initiated a complete overhaul of the legal system, abolishing brutal punishments and the death penalty in most cases. He also implemented the principle of equal treatment for all offenders. Joseph ended censorship of the press and theatre, and under his enlightenment policy, "Josephinism," he introduced extensive cultural reforms that revitalized Vienna as a cultural hub.
