Montblanc presents a range of Donation Pens that celebrate famous personalities in classical and contemporary music. These pens come in fountain, rollerball, and ballpoint variations and are meticulously crafted to truly capture the essence of the figures they pay tribute to. Acquiring a Donation Pen means not only owning a limited edition item that appeals to music and writing instrument enthusiasts, but it also helps support the promotion of art and culture. This is made possible through Montblanc's donation of a portion of the sales revenue.
This exquisite fountain pen pays homage to the conductor Karajan's legacy with its platinum-plated clip featuring an inlay shaped like a conductor's baton. The 18K gold nib, artistically hand-cut and plated with rhodium, is also embellished with a lovely dove design. Both the cap and barrel of the pen are in pristine condition, free from any cracks, nicks, or repairs, and the cap always securely fastens to the barrel. The pen measures 5 3/4" when capped and 6 3/8" when posted, and is a true masterpiece of craftsmanship.
This Montblanc fountain pen uses a piston-filling system. I have tested it with water and works as it was designed to. I have taken apart the piston to clean the inside of the barrel and flush out any old ink.
The 18-karat two-tone nib is engraved with a Dove design and is marked. "4810, 18K/750, MONTBLANC". This nib is a wonderful writing medium nib with the point measuring .78mm when using digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes between fine (on the horizontal strokes) to broad strokes/lines ranging from .48mm to 1.16mm with medium to firm pressure when measuring with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Blue Ink.
Although Herbert von Karajan started his career as a pianist, it was his exceptional talent as a conductor that made him one of the most influential figures in the world of music during the 20th century. Beyond his musical prowess, Karajan was also a charismatic media personality, a gifted producer of opera, and a successful festival creator. One of his life goals was to preserve musical traditions for future generations and he dedicated himself to helping young, talented artists achieve success. Karajan believed in the power of music to overcome barriers and bring cultures and people together.
