For your consideration we are offering for sale this Restored 1925 Waterman 9 Carat Solid Gold Overlay Fountain Pen made for the export market. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized sac. Hand polished 9-carat gold cap, 9-carat gold barrel and Ideal lever box assembly along with the flexible Ideal 14K #2 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber with a solid 9ct gold overlay. The 9ct gold overlay has a "Barley" alternating pattern. The butt end of the fountain pen does not display the model number imprint but is a Waterman 52 size pen. The 9ct gold overlay on the barrel is hallmarked with, "F.D.W. (for Frank D. Waterman, the head of the company at the time), 9 (for 9-carat solid gold) "375" (i.e. 9 karat gold), lowercase ' k ' which is the date mark for the year 1925 and the last hallmark is a lion head which would be the city mark for London". The cap is also marked 9 375 on the side and at the very top of the cap.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap does have the clip - also fully hallmarked. There is a personalization in the cartouche area of the barrel that reads, "TO C.K. FROM K.C.K. LONDON 1-6-26". There are no cracks, nicks, or repairs to the hard rubber and the 9-carat overlay is in amazing condition for its age - it is super clean with no dents and no scratching. This Waterman measures 5 1/2" in length capped and 6 3/4" posted.

I have weighed this Waterman and tips the scales at 29.2 grams. I also weighed a regular Waterman 52 without an overlay for curiosity sake and that weighed in at 14.1 grams. So the overlay on this pen weighs 15 grams roughly. The overlay is substantial and thick - you can tell it is well made.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever displays little wear. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it was intended to.

The NIB on this Waterman is 14K and a #2 size. The NIB writes very smoothly and has some amazing flexibility and responsiveness. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K #2 Ideal NIB, it measured at .66mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with an extra-fine line measuring roughly .37mm with very light pressure and flexes up to a triple broad stroke 2.24mm with firm to medium pressure, I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink. Again, I cannot emphasize this enough, the NIB is very smooth and has some of the best flexibility I on a waterman NIB is a long time.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is antique Waterman's Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition using the incredible flexible NIB. I would consider the condition of this fountain to easily grade excellent and certainly would be a fabulous writing instrument to add to your writing arsenal collection.
