The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly and as it was originally intended to.
This Waterman has the not so common Green Keyhole Nib. The Green color-coded Waterman Nib is known for having Medium manifold popular among stenographers. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .81mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .54mm on the horizontal strokes and will flex up to a medium line of roughly .85mm with firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The nib performs very well - writes very smoothly. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
This is antique Waterman #5 Red Ripple Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition using the scarce Green Keyhole nib. I would consider the condition of this Waterman #5 in excellent condition and certainly a Grail collector grade writing instrument. One of the best fountain pens that I have in my collection.
